Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Wrotham Partners.

Wrotham Partners is a capital advisory firm and placement agent that helps Western businesses raise equity and debt from investors across the Gulf. This page answers the questions we are asked most often about who we are, how we work and how to check that we are genuine. If your question is not here, please ask us.

About the firm

What is Wrotham Partners?

Wrotham Partners is a boutique capital advisory firm and placement agent based in London. We help Western businesses raise growth equity, private capital and debt from family offices, private investors and other capital allocators in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Doha and Kuwait, and we advise on sales and acquisitions involving Gulf capital.

Where is Wrotham Partners based?

In London, where we have our only office. We cover the Gulf through regular travel and the relationships our team has built across the region.

Does Wrotham Partners have an office in the Gulf?

No. We do not have an office in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Doha, Kuwait or anywhere else in the Gulf. Anyone claiming to represent a Wrotham Partners office in the region is not acting for us.

Who founded and leads Wrotham Partners?

Wrotham Partners is led by its Founding Partners, Ali Govani and Dylan Opara, with a Board of Advisors and an execution team. You can see everyone on our People page.

What makes Wrotham Partners different?

We focus on one thing: connecting Western businesses with Gulf capital. Senior people lead every mandate, we take on a small number of mandates at a time, and we hold our investor relationships directly.

How we work

What does a placement agent do?

A placement agent represents a business or fund that is raising capital. It identifies suitable investors, makes introductions, manages the conversations and runs the process through to signed documents. It does not invest its own money or hold investor funds.

Who does Wrotham Partners work with?

Established Western businesses, their boards and shareholders, and fund managers raising capital, typically raising around EUR 2 million or more (or the equivalent). On buy-side mandates we also advise family offices and investors. Our services are directed at professional and institutional parties.

Which investors and regions do you focus on?

Family offices, private investors and other capital allocators across the Gulf, principally in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Doha and Kuwait. We work with businesses in the UK, Europe and North America.

How does the process work?

It starts with a confidential call to understand the business and the capital it needs. If we agree to work together, we prepare the materials, agree a list of suitable investors with you, make the introductions, manage the meetings and feedback, and support you through terms, due diligence and completion.

How long does a capital raise take?

It depends on how prepared the business is and on the investors involved. A well-prepared raise commonly takes several months from first introductions to completion. We will give you an honest view of timing at the start.

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes. Information is shared only with your authority, usually under a non-disclosure agreement, and the fact of a process is treated as confidential throughout.

Is Wrotham Partners regulated, and how do you operate?

Wrotham Partners does not hold itself out as authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority or any other regulator. We act as a capital adviser and placement agent. Where an activity requires authorisation, it is undertaken by, or with, appropriately authorised parties.

Fees and money

How is Wrotham Partners paid?

We charge an engagement fee set by the size of the raise, and a success fee on capital raised, with the engagement fee credited against the success fee. Fees are agreed in writing in an engagement letter before work begins. We never ask for a fee to release funds, and we never hold client or investor money.

Is Wrotham Partners an investor or a fund manager?

No. We represent the party raising capital. We do not invest our own money and we do not manage investors' money.

Is Wrotham Partners a bank?

No. We are not a bank or a deposit-taker and we do not lend. We advise on capital raises and transactions and introduce our clients to investors and lenders.

Does Wrotham Partners ever hold investor money?

Never. Capital moves directly between the investor and the company. We never take custody of client or investor funds.

Will Wrotham Partners ever ask me to pay a fee to release or unlock funds?

Never. A request to pay to release, unlock or guarantee funds is a hallmark of advance-fee fraud. If anyone asks you for this in our name, do not pay, and tell us straight away.

Does Wrotham Partners guarantee that a raise will succeed?

No. No adviser can guarantee investor appetite or an outcome, and anyone who does should be treated with caution. We tell clients plainly when we think a raise is unlikely to work or when it would be better to wait.

Verifying us

How can I verify that Wrotham Partners is genuine?

Check that you are on wrothampartners.com, that emails come from an @wrothampartners.com address and that the people you deal with appear on our Team page. How do I know an email from Wrotham Partners is genuine?

Can I review your track record before engaging you?

Yes. Our Transactions page shows a selection of mandates led or advised by the team, including transactions completed by team members at prior firms, and our Newsroom covers recent announcements. We are happy to talk through relevant experience on a first call.

Where can I find independent information about Wrotham Partners?

Our LinkedIn company page, our Newsroom and published press releases about our transactions. You can also check our team members' own LinkedIn profiles from the Team page.

How do I report someone misusing the Wrotham Partners name?

Please tell us through the Contact page or at contact@wrothampartners.com, then report it to the police or the national fraud reporting service in your country. Our Fraud and impersonation notice explains what to look for.

Careers

Does Wrotham Partners ask for access to your LinkedIn account or your passwords?

Never. We will never ask for your passwords or for access to your LinkedIn, email, bank or any other account, at any stage.

Does Wrotham Partners ever ask candidates for payment?

Never. We do not charge candidates for applications, training, equipment or checks, and we never ask for gift cards, vouchers or any other payment.

What is it like to work at Wrotham Partners?
